An essential aspect here is the safe operation of the appliance, which must be ensured by the manufacturer. 

The standards specify the requirements for safety and performance (efficiency and emissions) as well as design and manufacture with the associated test methods. 

For heating appliances, the HKI is involved in the design of the corresponding standards at national, European and international level via the FNH standardization committee of DIN. A particular focus here is on the revision of the product standards for fireplaces with the EN 16510 series of standards "Residential solid fuel burning appliances". This series of standards describes the general requirements and test methods in its Part 1 and the specific requirements of the different types of equipment in its parts 2.
