The WEEE Directive 2012/19/EU regulates the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment and the product responsibility of manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment under waste law. In Germany, the WEEE Directive is implemented by the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG). The aim of both the Directive and the ElektroG is to reduce waste through reuse, recycling or recovery. It also lays down minimum requirements for the treatment of WEEE. The Directive applies to all electrical and electronic equipment. The HKI Association provides its members with up-to-date information on the WEEE Directive and ElektroG and represents their interests at national and European level as well as at the EAR foundation (stiftung elektro-altgeräte register).
